Conan a Great Game According to the AP | Conan Hacks off Hands of Reviewer
December 14, 2007 6:41 pm PS3, Xbox 360In yet another reason to abstain from any reviews or news that comes from people who know next to nothing about games (looking at you Father de Souza and you Variety [Mario Galaxy, crap?]) comes the AP’s recent review of Conan.
And I quote, “Overall, it’s probably the best, most engaging game I’ve played all year.”
Conan. Seriously? The best game all year? Not Galaxy, Halo 3, BioShock or Mass Effect, but Conan?
This is the same game that Arnold distanced himself from because it’s just an abomination on this planet.
The review honestly goes into how smooth and elegant the game is. He’s quite fond of the story. Yup, the story in a glorified dungeon slasher. Come on, even Robert E. Howard didn’t give any misconceptions about the story with Conan; it was just good old fashioned butt-kicking fun writing, which sadly hasn’t made the transition to the video game world so well.
The only thing the review didn’t like? The topless woman throwing themselves at Conan. Hacking off arms and legs? That’s cool. Naked women? Thanks, but no.
Yet the Associated Press, the people who report on real, hard hitting news, seem to think it’s alright for them to print this obviously misguided view of video games.
It’s sad really.
For the love of God, at least next time tap a reporter who has played a game in this century!
