Buy a Wii | How to Find and Buy a Nintendo Wii
December 12, 2007 6:53 pm WiiHunting for a Nintendo Wii this holiday season? Yeah, who isn’t? Due to the limited supply and insane demand, there aren’t many ways to buy a Wii these days. (I’m not one of those conspiracy theorists who think that Nintendo is trying to keep the Wii supply at a trickle. Why would they do that? It’s just money they’re losing).
If you’re looking for some tips and tricks about acquiring a Wii this holiday season, then follow this advice and you should be able to buy a Wii.
Buy a Wii at Big Box Stores
Invariably, big box stores (looking at you Wal-Mart and Target) get weekly shipments of supplies. Enclosed in these magnificent shipping boxes is…you guess it: the Nintendo Wii. The best way to score a Wii from a store like Wal-Mart or Target is to get there right when they are opening and head straight for the Wii section. If they have a Wii, you’ll get one.
Not such a big fan of getting up everyday to battle the masses at these stores? Ask the nice people who work there when they expect to get their next shipment. They might not be able to tell you exactly when they will get a shipment of Wiis, but they will be able to tell you the days they get shipments. So, if it’s on Thursdays (like most places), then you’ll only have to camp out every Thursday morning.
Buy a Wii at Video Game Stores
Getting a Wii at an actual video game store (EB Games, Gamestop) is going to be a little trickier. The cagy veterans who work at these stores are used to people coming in and wanting Wiis…since last year. You can try bribing them, but it probably won’t work, since they don’t control the supply of Nintendo Wiis they receive. You’ll need to use the same tactic as with the big box stores.
Each and every day you should call your local video game store and ask about their Wii supplies. Eventually, they’ll come to expect your call and they’ll let you know when they have them in…if for no other reason than to get you off their back.
Set up an iTrackr Account to Buy a Nintendo Wii
One of the most exciting new ways of getting a Wii this holiday season is by signing up for an iTrackr account. iTracker is a new website (still in beta form) that tracks items for you via your zip code. It’s pretty slick and it will even send you updates on your cell phone by using text messages. This way, you’ll know where it’s in stock and where it’s not.
Look for Giveaways Online and in Person to Get a Nintendo Wii
Another tricky, but sometimes successful way to get a Nintendo Wii is to look for people who are giving them away as promotions. Sites, like PlayerHousing, are giving away a Wii. To get it from PlayerHousing, all you need to do is to sign up to join the community and then refer people to join with you. You can hunt for other giveaways and try your best to get a Nintendo Wii.
