We’ve all been there…sitting at a computer and needing to kill some time. Maybe you’re at work and the clock doesn’t seem to be moving. Elder Scrolls Online a Go — Goodbye Outside World!

Industry News No Comments

Denying that you’re going online when you’ve registered ElderScrollsOnline.com is kinda silly, but what the heck, Bethesda did that. When their parent company, ZeniMax, swaggered online and procured that site, there was little doubt what was happening. And, after a paltry few days of denying the inevitable…wait for it…Bethesda’s Pete Hines confirmed that an MMORPG of Elder Scrolls is gonna happen!

Shocking, I know.

He says that they have already put $300 million into this project.

He also went on to say, “I don’t think that this funding changes our focus in terms of what we are about and are trying to accomplish. The additional resources will allow us to expand our publishing efforts-both our own titles and those of other studios-and to pursue development of more titles, working with internal and external development teams.”

What does it all mean? Well, it means that I might finally venture deeper in to the online gaming community. I mean…having lost many of my formative years playing the early Elder Scrolls games and then to see the big deal about Morrowind (finally, the general public caught on), I think that they’ve already got at least one person ready to roll and more than likely many people.

Let’s do this thang!

Super Mario Galaxy Bursts Onto Scene Early — To Hell with Release Dates

Wii No Comments

“Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” This was a rallying cry for Admiral David Glasgow Farragut as he stormed into Mobile Bay in 1864. This brash move helped him defeat the Confederacy that day and capture the bay.

It turns out that the fine employees of Best Buy and some other quality retail stores are echoing his call to action in their lacking of caring about release dates. “Release dates?” they quaff, “We don’t need no stinkin’ release dates.”

Proving that you can’t keep a good plumber down, Super Mario Galaxy has burst onto the scene four days early! At least, that’s what the thread at GameFaqs is discussing. If you’re interested in getting your grubby mitts on an early copy of Galaxy, pop over to GameFaqs and figure out where you can. Or just pop over to your local Best Buy…they’ve got them there, just harass the workers enough and they’ll cave.

Atari Loses Money, Games, Will To Live

Industry News No Comments

Atari, one of the former giants of the video game world, might just be closing up shop…finally.

What’s the story with this 35-year-old company? Where did it all go so wrong? Well…where it started to go wrong is a a long tale indeed, but how they’re messing up in recent times is easy.

They have posted a $70 million loss for the last fiscal year, have fired most of their board, borrowed $10 million (I’d like to shake the hand of the person who thought it was a good idea to loan them the money) and now they’re reporting a $12 million loss for Q1.

Yup, Q1. As in, the one that ended on the last day of June. Apparently, they thought they could delay the inevitable.

They’ve already sold most of their popular franchises, such as Stuntman and Driver. Heck, they might even lose their Dragon Ball Z license.

Shock of shocks, in their quarterly report they state, “substantial doubt about [their] ability to continue as a going concern.”

And you know what? Coming from a guy who bought a Jaguar (I’m still bitter), why delay the inevitable? Fold up shop and go away.

PS3 Deals from Dell — Get a Bundle for an Affordable Price

PS3, Video Game Deals No Comments

Hunting for a PS3 this holiday season and looking to save a few bucks on it? Good luck, the price is stuck. However, fighting the evil gaming industry insurgency of price gouging and ’sticking-it-to-the-video-game-customer’ is Dell!

Wait, Dell? The same Dell who used to hire reefer kids to sling their products? (Dude, you’re getting a Dell deal!)

Indeed, that very same Dell is offering a deal on PS3s.

What’s the deal? Currently, they are offering a deal on the 40GB system. You’ll get the system with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray (natch), but you’ll be able to watch it in the crisp clarity that you were supposed to with the Startech 6 ft HDMI cable that they’ve thrown in with it. That’s a real deal, because for some inexplicable reason the PS3 still only ships with standard AV cables.

Actually looking to play games on your gaming system? Well, then you might want to rethink your PS3 choice, but if you’re still sold on Sony’s beast, Dell is also throwing in Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, a fantastic game.

The price of all of this stuff if you were to buy it separately? $488. The price Dell is asking? $399.99. Dude, you’re getting a PS3! Buy it now.

New Japanese PS2 — Now Jenny Craig Approved

PS2 1 Comment

Slim PS2As we all know, smaller is better — and Sony Japan is on that bandwagon.

They have confirmed plans to release a redesigned PlayStation 2.

It’s going to drop in weight from the current hefty 850 grams to the more svelte 720 grams. Not only is it losing some of its heft, but also the AC adapter is moving inside the system, replacing the external one on current slim models.

This new sleeker PS2 will go on sale in Japan on December 22. Those lucky people can purchase it in three colors, Charcoal Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver. Sadly, it’ll still be the same price (¥16,000).

An official release of this new model outside of Japan? There is no official word yet, but I imagine that it’ll roll out worldwide eventually.
