Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune — The Halloween Trailer!

PS3 No Comments

Now, I don’t want people thinking I have a bias against the PS3 because it doesn’t have any games and is a decent video player…I really don’t. I just like to play video games on my gaming systems, call me strange.

Anyway, that’s why I’m so psyched to see this new trailer for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune! It’s not just that I’m obsessed with everything Indiana Jones (I’ll admit it, I even have an Indiana Jones bag that I use to carry my stuff in), but this looks like a seriously fantastic game!

Halloween trailer? Well, as to the title…I dunno, but enjoy the video anyway!

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Delayed…Again

PS3 No Comments

Konami of Japan announced in a press release today that they had delayed the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots until the second Quarter of 2008, instead of the spring 2008 release date (which itself was a delay, because they were going to originally release Metal Gear Solid 4 this winter).

Granted, they insisted that they have decided to delay the release “in order to make further improvements of the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.”

Further improvements of the quality? I hope so. Until MGS4 comes out, there aren’t too many reasons to own a PS3 for gaming purposes. Well, alright, there is at least one. Heck, if you can’t wait until then, at least you can use it as a Blu-ray player.

Fanboys…Unite!

DS, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 No Comments

Go to any site where readers can sound off and you will inevitably see the ensuing battle: Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360…and sometimes vs Wii (who even knows if the Wii matters?). It’s a passionate barrage of words of those who truly believe a win is possible and perhaps those soldiers caught up in the fight will in turn get their own “console pride badge of victory” once it has all been settled.

I understand their passion, your passion. I grew up wanting the “best” (whatever that is) and when it came to video games, I wanted the best console. There once was a simpler time when the lines were much clearer. Before as today, you could not necessarily declare an undisputed victor in the console wars, but you could definitely identify the losers, lest we forget to name a few (in no particular order): Jaguar, TG16, 32X, VirtualBoy, Dreamcast, CD-i, 3DO, etc.

In this generation, I believe it is fair to assume that no one particular console will suffer the fate of these aforementioned ones, so why persist in declaring the other can win a console war of any kind? Who will lose….who can lose?

PlayStation 3 on its worst day as a videogame machine is not a bad blu-ray disc player…and it’s shiny. Xbox 360 on its worst day isn’t even in your home, it’s off somewhere in Texas getting repaired, but it will be back once again to destroy your social life, cause fights with your girlfriend and warm you and your home on those cold winter nights. The Wii, I digress on its worst day…is the Wii and no one cares. In the Wii’s respect, there is a definitive winner when it comes to capturing the hearts and minds of the elderly seeking an alternative to real bowling: Wii, you win.

Seriously though, for a victor to be named, the “war” needs to be more clearly defined:

Video GAME war: Xbox360 you’ve got the most and the best (in terms of sales), you win.

Video PLAYER war: Blu-ray disc has way more sales (in the HD department) and more movies people want, sorry HD-DVD fans, I declare PS3 winner in this one.

CONSOLE (everyone wants to know) war: Wii you have strength in numbers, you win.

Wow, everyone wins…strangely, I find the “console war” that much more insignificant.

Nerd Alert: Crackdown on Your Xbox LIVE Account

Xbox 360 No Comments

Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson is cracking the proverbial whip on all Xbox LIVE users. His message: Show some pride in your Achievements, or face the wrath of Microsoft.

Translation: If you let someone else use your account info (i.e. share it) and this person drives up your score, then Microsoft will cancel your account.

Cancelled, as in, it’s gone for good. Finito. Game over. Thanks for playing, but you’re dead now. You’ll no longer be able to register AmazingGamer300, it’ll be lost to the ether.

In his same rant on why sharing your account is bad, he also goes into why tampering with your Achievements sans playing the actual game is bad. Why? ‘Cause if you do it, they’re gonna remove your account, same as they do with sharing.

His final message? “The best way to increase your Gamerscore or gain that Achievement is to earn it like a real gamer; play the game.”

That’s right boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, take some pride in your Achievements and don’t let someone else get them for you. ‘Cause if you do, then you won’t have any nerd bragging rights left for your friends.

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction Ships — PS3 Owners Get Another Game That Doesn’t Suck

PS3 No Comments

In a magnificent display of pity for the PS3 owners out there (I feel your pain), Sony announced today the Insomniac Games developed sure-fire hit, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, is shipping to retail stores.

Insomniac, the same team behind the other Ratchet & Clank hits and one of the few PS3 hits to date, Resistance: Fall of Man, is giving all of the PS3 owners a reason to own their PS3s. Sony went on about how the physics engine in Tools of Destruction is four times faster than in Resistance, but those kinds of technical details don’t really matter…the only real question is, “Is this game any good?”

Well, as to that, you can be assured that Insomniac designed a winner with this one.

“Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was the team’s opportunity to not only bring back what players have known and loved about the franchise, but a chance to create an experience that redefines itself on the PS3 system,” said Brian Allgeier, creative director, Insomniac Games. “As the biggest game Insomniac has ever produced, Ratchet & Clank Future expands its action adventure roots into new territories that will truly evoke a sense of mystery, adventure, variety and spectacle around every turn.”

If you have a PS3, do yourself a favor and go out and get this game.
